Dear Sir: In the "State" of the 20th must I see a card from you stating that a reply would be made in a few days to the address of Mahme. As this county, Halifax, together with other, receives special mention, and is referred to a [illegible] of the place where "the crack of the Bourbon weapon, engaged in political murder, resounded, and the Bourbon Knife saw deep". I write you this brief statement of the facts in [illegible] with the run at this place, which if it will be of any benefit to the Committee in preparing the addups you are at liberty to use. The run here the height of Oct. 30th was brought in by a party of negroes from Halifax CH who came into town about dark, in a wagon belonging to J.D. Clay. We are testing transcription, so this is nonsense.
