in reply to yours of the 20 for
my opinion in regard to
intimidation being used
by the white People to prevent
the Negroes from exercising
their right of Suffrage in the
late Election, I will say that I
never Saw more freedom exercised
at the Poles than I Saw at Midlothian
on the day of Election. Every one!
both white & Colored,
Seemed at perfect liberty
to vote as they pleased.
The Election was as quiet and orderly
