Hallsboro for Nov 22-1883
W W Baker Esq.
Dear Sir

my opinion in regard to
intimidation being used
by the white People to prevent
the Negroes from exercising
their right of Suffrage in the
late Election, I will say that I
never Saw more freedom exercised
at the Poles than I Saw at Midlothian
on the day of Election. Every one!
both white & Colored,
Seemed at perfect liberty
to vote as they pleased.
The Election was as quiet and orderly
as any I ever attended [test] i am editing this page and the allegations made by _
_ against the white people in regard
to intimidation, as far as my
observations have been, is entirely
without foundation
