Description

Lt. Col. Folmer Sogaard served in the US military from 1940-1960. During World War II, Sogaard flew with the 63rd Bomb Squadron, 43rd Bomb Group of the 5th Air Force--his plane, a B-17F Flying Fortress #41-24520 "Fightin Swede". Folmer was the Commanding Officer of the 63rd Bomb Squadron from 24 May 1943 to 16 August 1943.

In this letter home, early in his overseas deployment, he writes from an undisclosed location in the Pacific. Wartime security and censorship limited the information he could share with his family as he explains, "It's sure hard to write about anything..."
